Orchidville

The pot of orchids that Estelle bought after the tour.

Last saturday, estelle, diyana and i went to Orchidville. Do not get me wrong. I am not becoming a nature lover/biologist. We have to go there to get information for our project in NIE. We actually learnt some interesting facts that we do not know, eg vanilla comes from orchids, or that a certain part of a certain species of orchids can help fight cancer, and is very costly when sold in chinese pharmacies. The lady in charge of Orchidville also mentioned to us that the company supplies most of the orchids that you see in hotels and the airport. They cultivate and harvest orchids, and even have a laboratory to experiment with different hybrids of orchids, to create new hybrids. So interesting......... They even have a restaurant that serves damn expensive chinese cuisine, and is situated in a former green house. Will i recommend the restaurant? I'm not very sure as i did not try the food there, however looking at their menu and the number of people dining there on a saturday afternoon lunch hour, i guess not. There's not much reason to travel there too as majority of the farm is closed to public, therefore its all the way there for an expensive meal and maybe grab a pot of orchids after makan...
